The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old woman, Khadija Ibrahim, of Rikoto, Zuru Local Government Area, over the alleged theft of a newborn baby in Zuru.

According to a statement by SP Bashir Usman, Police Public Relations Officer, the incident occurred on July 23, 2026, when the suspect allegedly offered to assist Fatima Muhammad, who had just given birth, by fetching hot water.
The Command said the suspect instead fled with the newborn and allegedly presented the baby to her husband as their own, after reportedly deceiving him for about nine months into believing that she was pregnant.
Following sustained investigation, the suspect was arrested on August 14, while the baby was recovered and safely reunited with the biological mother.
The Police said the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigation and in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar M. Hadejia, commended the operatives for their diligence and professionalism in securing the safe return of the baby and arresting the suspect.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and bringing anyone found culpable to justice.
