Police Arrests Man Over Alleged Rape of 19 Years Old in Ogun State

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command attached to the Ijebu-Igbo Division have arrested a 20-year-old suspect in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a 19-year-old female victim in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo, while an intensive manhunt has been launched to track down his fleeing accomplices.

Oluborode Opeyemi, Ogun Police PRO said, “The arrest follows a formal report lodged at the station on Tuesday, 1st September 2026, at about 10:10 a.m., by the victim’s mother regarding an incident that occurred on 30th August 2026 at their residence in Odo Idi Scale, Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo.

“Upon receipt of the report, police operatives immediately swung into action, visiting and securing the scene of the crime to gather crucial evidentiary material. In line with standard procedures and survivor-centered care, investigating officers promptly escorted the victim to the General Hospital, supported by a formal Police Medical Form, for comprehensive medical examination and care.

“Following preliminary inquiries, operatives successfully tracked down and arrested one suspect, identified as Ayomide Kamula, ‘m’, aged 20. The suspect is currently in police custody undergoing interrogation while robust operational measures and intelligence-led searches have been intensified to track down and apprehend the fleeing co-suspect, identified as Boye Balogun, ‘m’, who remains at large.

“The case is currently being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

“CP Bode Ojajuni, Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, while strongly condemning the incident, described sexual and gender-based violence as an egregious crime that will not be tolerated under any circumstance. The CP reiterated the Command’s firm commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against sexual offences across the state. He assured the victim’s family and the general public that a thorough, discreet investigation is underway and that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring the fleeing suspect is brought to book to face the full weight of the law.”
