The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper, rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an operation in the Eliozu-Rumuokoro axis of Port Harcourt.
The operation followed information received by the Command at about 10:15 p.m. on September 24, 2026, that a person had been kidnapped.
According to the police, a Convoy Patrol Team stationed at Eliozu sighted the suspected kidnappers and immediately pursued them towards Rumuokoro, through the Eligbolu area.
Following directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, operatives of the Special Area Division were mobilised and intercepted the fleeing suspects.
The coordinated operation led to the arrest of one of the suspected kidnappers, identified as 23-year-old Sunday Rufus, a native of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The police also rescued the kidnapped victim, identified as Mr Emmanuel, who was subsequently secured for medical attention.
Items recovered during the operation included one AK-47 rifle, two rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and a white tricycle with registration number PHC 756 ZY.
The Command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the alleged criminal gang.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers and operatives involved in the operation for their prompt response, courage and professionalism.
Adepoju reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven and coordinated operations against kidnapping and other violent crimes across Rivers State.
The Command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information to the police, stressing that community cooperation remains important in preventing and combating kidnapping and other violent crimes.
