The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has clarified the circumstances surrounding the issuance of a Nigerian passport to Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac.
A statement by Akinsola Akinlabi, Service Public Relations Officer, says Passport Number B51450551 was issued to Mrs Godwin-Isaac on 15th February 2025, about four months before her arraignment at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The statement further says she had applied for reissuance of her previous passport and met all applicable requirements before the new document was issued.
According to the statement, the Service had, at the time, received no court order, watchlist instruction, or other lawful restrictions preventing the issuance of the passport or restricting her travel.
The subsequent court order requiring her to deposit her passport was therefore made after the document had been issued.
The Service also confirms that its records show she later travelled to Rwanda, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom, without any formal travel restriction, having been communicated to NIS.
The statement pledges to cooperate with any lawful investigation and provide relevant records.
