The Federal Government has revised the charges filed against Abubakar Malami, former Attorney-General of the Federation, and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, removing the allegation of terrorism financing.

At Wednesday’s court proceedings, Akinlolu Kehinde, counsel to the Department of State Services (DSS), notified the court of the amendment and sought leave to substitute the initial charge.
Recall that Malami and his son were initially arraigned by the DSS on February, 3, 2026 on a five-count charge that included allegations of terrorism financing and unlawful possession of firearms.
The DSS had earlier accused the former AGF of failing to prosecute suspected terrorism financiers despite case files allegedly forwarded to his office.
On February 27, both defendants were granted bail in the sum of N200 million each, with two sureties in like amount.
The revised charge now centres solely on the alleged illegal possession of firearms.
Counsel to the defendants, Shaibu Aruwa, confirmed that his clients had been served with the amended charge and raised no objection to it being read in court.
Following this, the new charge was read, and both defendants pleaded not guilty.
Presiding judge, Joyce Abdulmalik, ruled that the defendants should continue on the bail earlier granted on February 27.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter to May 26 and June 15 for trial.
According to the amended charge, the prosecution alleges that arms and live cartridges were recovered from Malami’s residence in Birnin Kebbi.
