In commemoration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary, the Abeokuta City Electorates on Tuesday organized a special interactive session aimed at addressing the growing voter apathy in local government elections.

The session, themed “Local Government Elections; A Call to Discourage Apathy,” featured Honorable Lukmon Atobatele, Deputy Minority Leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly, as the special guest of honour.

During the event, Hon. Atobatele emphasized the crucial role local government elections play in grassroots development and governance.

He called on citizens, particularly the youth, to engage actively in the electoral process, stressing the importance of exercising their civic responsibility to ensure accountability and progress.

The Abeokuta City Electorates, a pro-democracy group, organized the session as part of its efforts to foster dialogue and encourage political participation at the grassroots level.

The event served as a reminder of the power citizens hold in shaping the future of their communities through the ballot box.

The interactive session saw participants express their concerns, share ideas, and commit to encouraging wider participation in upcoming local government elections.
