NAF airstrikes destroy terrorist hideouts in Borno

The Nigerian Air Force has destroyed terrorist hideouts during a fresh round of airstrikes in the Southern Tumbuns area of Borno State.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Director of Public Relations and Information.

According to the statement, the operation was carried out on Friday at about 6:50 p.m. over Ali Sheriffti, an area described by the military as a known terrorist enclave.

Ejodame said the strike followed credible intelligence reports indicating renewed insurgent activities and movement within the location.

He explained that NAF air assets first conducted a focused surveillance sweep over the area to verify the intelligence.

During the mission, several suspected insurgents were reportedly sighted moving through concealed tracks and pathways designed to avoid detection.

The statement said the suspects were trailed to a cluster of structures hidden beneath dense foliage, where they were believed to be operating from.

Following positive identification of the targets, the air force launched a precision strike using onboard munitions.

Ejodame said the operation achieved the intended objective, with the targeted structures destroyed.

He added that the strike further degraded the terrorists’ operational capability and reduced their freedom of movement in the Southern Tumbuns axis.

The spokesperson said the latest mission demonstrates the Nigerian Air Force’s sustained commitment to intelligence-led and precision-driven operations aimed at denying insurgents safe havens across the North-East.

He also quoted the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, as reaffirming the service’s resolve to maintain pressure on terrorist networks.

According to the statement, the air force would continue to intensify operations to protect the country and its citizens.

“The Nigerian Air Force will continue to pursue and dismantle terrorist networks with unwavering precision and relentless force, ensuring no enclave remains beyond our reach,” the statement added.
