The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerian workers on the occasion and commended them for their dedication, resilience, and contributions to national development.
He noted that the efforts of workers remain vital to the country’s growth and prosperity, urging them to continue to uphold values of patriotism, productivity, and commitment to duty.
The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the welfare and security of workers, as well as creating an enabling environment for economic growth.
He also called on Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding, while using the occasion to reflect on the importance of unity and hard work in nation-building.
