Sanwo-Olu said the development further reinforces his administration’s commitment to positioning LASU among the top 10 universities globally.

According to data released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, LASU attracted 84,426 applicants in the 2026 UTME, making it the most preferred tertiary institution in the country.

Reacting to the ranking, the governor described LASU as a beacon of academic excellence and national relevance, noting that the institution’s improved performance reflects the Lagos State Government’s sustained investment in education and human capital development.

He attributed the achievement to visionary leadership, committed faculty members, and hardworking students, supported by his administration’s THEMES Plus Agenda, which prioritises education, innovation and technological advancement.

Sanwo-Olu commended LASU for maintaining high academic standards, producing quality graduates and improving infrastructure, adding that the university would continue to shape the future of young Nigerians.

The governor also praised the Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, for her leadership and contributions to the institution’s growing local and international reputation.

According to him, her administration has introduced innovative learning approaches and reforms that have elevated LASU’s standing among universities in Nigeria and beyond.

Sanwo-Olu urged staff and students of the institution to sustain the momentum and continue working towards greater academic excellence.

LASU, established 41 years ago, has in recent years implemented reforms aimed at strengthening research, improving infrastructure, enhancing academic standards and creating a more student-centred learning environment.
