The Governing Council of the University has approved the promotion of 34 academic staff to professorial ranks, with 17 elevated to the rank of Professor and another 17 promoted to Associate Professor.

The promotions were approved at the 101st Regular Meeting of the Governing Council, chaired by Distinguished Senator Dr. Olanrewaju Tejuoso, held on Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11, 2026.
According to the university, the promotions followed the consideration and approval of favourable external assessment reports on the candidates’ scholarly publications and academic contributions.
The newly promoted academics span a broad range of disciplines, including Community Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Engineering, Religious Studies, Guidance and Counselling, Accounting, Library and Information Science, Business Administration, and Physics.
Others are in the fields of Parasitology and Entomology, Physiology, Crop Science, Educational Foundations, and Banking and Finance.
The university said the promotions take effect from October 2025.
Congratulating the beneficiaries, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, described the promotions as a recognition of excellence, dedication, and scholarly achievement.
“These promotions are not just about attaining a higher rank. They reflect our belief that hard work and dedication should be recognised and rewarded. I congratulate all those promoted and encourage them to see this as a call to even greater service to the University, their profession and society,” Fawehinmi said.
The latest elevation is expected to further strengthen the university’s teaching, research, and community service capacity, while reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence and the recognition of outstanding scholarship.
