The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a father and his son for allegedly being in unlawful possession of four single-barrel firearms during a stop-and-search operation in Yenagoa.

The suspects, identified as 68-year-old Tibi Friday and his 36-year-old son, Oyabrade Tibi, were apprehended by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Vice Unit along the Igbogene–Tombia Expressway on July 6.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, the suspects, who are from Futoro Gbene Community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, were intercepted while travelling in a commercial tricycle reportedly bound for Abua in Rivers State.
He said a thorough search of the tricycle led to the discovery of four single-barrel guns concealed inside a sack and covered with sticks in what investigators believe was an attempt to evade detection.
The police spokesman disclosed that the suspects were immediately taken into custody, while the recovered firearms were secured as exhibits.
He added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yenagoa, for further investigation to determine the source of the firearms and identify any other persons connected with the alleged offence.
The Command reiterated its commitment to curbing the proliferation of illegal firearms and tackling violent crimes across Bayelsa State.
It also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information to assist the police in improving security and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
