Tinubu Commends NDLEA Over Major Crackdown on Nigerian-Mexican Drug Syndicate

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency over what he described as a landmark success in dismantling a sophisticated transborder drug trafficking network involving Nigerian and Mexican cartels.

The President praised the anti-narcotics agency for busting a multi-million-dollar illegal drug production operation and arresting several suspects, including foreign nationals, local kingpins and their collaborators.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the operation as a demonstration of professionalism, courage and commitment by NDLEA operatives.

The NDLEA Chairman, Mohammed Buba Marwa, had on Wednesday announced the successful operation, which followed weeks of intelligence gathering and coordinated planning with international partners.

The operation reportedly led to the seizure of illicit drugs and chemicals valued at more than $360 million.

President Tinubu applauded the bravery and resilience of the operatives involved in the mission, urging the agency not to relent in its efforts to combat drug trafficking and organised crime.

He noted that West Africa has increasingly become a major transit route for cocaine, synthetic drugs and unregulated pharmaceuticals destined for Europe and North America.

According to the President, the growing narcotics trade poses not only a security threat to the region but also endangers the future of young people who often become victims of drug abuse and trafficking.

Tinubu also called on Nigerians to support the fight against illicit drugs by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities within their communities to security agencies.

“This landmark success is a strong message that our security agencies will not tolerate organised crime and criminality anywhere in the country,” the President stated.

He added that individuals threatening public safety and national security through drug trafficking would face the full weight of the law.
