Operatives of the Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit, attached to the Enugu State Police Command, arrested 20 suspects over Cultism, drug trafficking and other violent crimes.
Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the State Command, in a statement, indicated the resolve of the Command to rid the state of cult activities.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested at different black spots at Emene and Eke areas of Enugu with large quantities of substance suspected to be Cannabis Sativa and wraps of Cocaine.
They were gathered under the identity of black axe confraternity and Aye, while carrying out their initiation of new members before the operatives swooped on them .
Investigation into the cases are ongoing to apprehend other suspects that fled, and to establish the full extent of the criminal activities of those arrested before their arraignment on the conclusion of investigation.
The Enugu State Police Commissioner, CP Mamman Giwa, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence driven policing against cultism , drug trafficking and other violent crimes in the state.
