Kano Pillars secured their first win of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season on Sunday after surviving a late comeback from Niger Tornadoes in a five-goal thriller at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
The hosts raced into a commanding lead, with Ubong Friday and Fabian Nworie finding the net before the interval. Nworie completed his brace nine minutes into the second half to put Pillars 3-0 ahead.
Niger Tornadoes, however, refused to go down without a fight. Godfrey Joseph and Wasiu Jimoh pulled two goals back, but Pillars held firm in the closing stages to claim all three points.
At the New Jos Stadium, Plateau United also recorded their first victory of the campaign, defeating Kwara United 1-0 through Alex Aghahowa’s 29th-minute effort.
Nasarawa United matched that result in Lafia, where Sam Pam’s 55th-minute goal earned them a narrow 1-0 victory over Bendel Insurance.
The only goalless fixture of the day came at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, where Kun Khalifat FC and Barau FC settled for a 0-0 draw.
