Osun Govt Accounts Unfrozen After Tinubu’s Directive

The bank accounts of the Osun State Government have been restored to full operation following President Bola Tinubu’s directive to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to lift the restriction, Premium Times reports.

According to the report, a Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, confirmed that the restriction had been removed.

An aide to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke also reportedly confirmed that the state government’s accounts were now functional.

“The restriction has been lifted. EFCC cannot ignore the presidential order. I can confirm to you that it was done immediately,” Ajayi was quoted as saying.

He added that the Osun State Government’s decision to withdraw its legal action against the EFCC was an indication that the accounts had been restored.

The EFCC had frozen the state government’s accounts domiciled with First Bank on August 5, 2026, just 10 days before the August 15 governorship election.

The action generated reactions from Nigerians, with some critics describing the restriction as politically motivated because Adeleke was not a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, President Tinubu reportedly directed the EFCC the following day to immediately vacate the court order that authorised the freezing of the state government’s accounts.

The latest development means the Osun State Government can now access and operate the affected accounts following the lifting of the restriction.

The confirmation came from both the Presidency and an aide to Governor Adeleke, although the EFCC itself had not been quoted in the report as publicly announcing the release of the accounts.
