Gbenga Ogunbote, Plateau United technical adviser has identified his side’s slow start and the playing surface at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium as key factors behind their 2-0 defeat to Rivers United.
The Peace Boys began their new NPFL campaign on a losing note after Abdulrasheed Dabai and Wasiu Falolu scored for Rivers United in Port Harcourt.
Ogunbote admitted that his players struggled to impose themselves during the opening half, describing their reaction to the game as slow and poor.
According to the coach, adjustments made at half-time helped Plateau United produce a more balanced performance after the break.
However, he said the condition of the pitch made it difficult for his team to fully execute its plans in the second half.
“The first half we didn’t get the game right but the corrections were made in the second half,” Ogunbote said.
“We were able to play like a more balanced side in the second half but unfortunately the field didn’t allow it.”
Despite the disappointing result, the Plateau United coach said his team would take lessons from the defeat and focus on improving in their next fixture.
“The game is gone. We will take positives from it in the next game,” he added.
