The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Arab Emirates’ National Drug Enforcement Authority (NDEA) to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking between Nigeria and the UAE.
The agreement, signed on the sidelines of the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Abu Dhabi, will deepen intelligence-sharing, operational information exchange and joint enforcement efforts along the Nigeria-UAE corridor.
Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa, NDLEA Chairman, says the partnership is necessary, noting that the agency intercepted about 354.7 kilogrammes of illicit drugs destined for the UAE between 2021 and 2026, leading to 47 arrests and prosecutions.
The UAE also pledged closer cooperation to disrupt trafficking networks, with plans to provide Nigerian travellers with a comprehensive list of prohibited items to prevent inadvertent violations.
