Four men have been arrested by the Osun State Police Command in connection with the alleged burglary of a phone shop in Osogbo, where mobile phones valued at about N5 million were reportedly stolen.
The suspects are Afeez Arole, 30; Salami Wahab Idowu, 49; Akanmu Afeez, 37; and Adebisi Taofeek, 47.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura.
Ojelabi said the incident was reported on September 1, 2026, after the owner of the shop in the Oja-Oba area discovered that suspected hoodlums had broken into the premises and stolen different types of mobile phones.
Following the report, police operatives commenced investigation and intelligence gathering aimed at identifying those allegedly responsible for the theft.
The Command said a breakthrough was recorded on September 22, when information was received that suspected hoodlums had been sighted around the Oja-Oba area.
Acting on the intelligence, operatives conducted surveillance and raided a suspected hideout, where the four suspects were arrested.
Two Itel mobile phones were reportedly recovered during the operation and were later identified by the complainant as part of the items allegedly stolen from his shop.
The police said the suspects have made statements to investigators as efforts continue to establish their individual roles in the alleged offence and recover the remaining stolen phones.
Zungura directed the investigating team to expand the investigation and trace other persons suspected to be connected to the alleged criminal network.
The Command also advised residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the police.
