Donald Trump, US President has pledged to give $5,000 to every adult American citizen if the Republican Party wins control of both chambers of Congress in the 2026 midterm elections.
Trump made the promise in a video shared on his verified X account, linking the proposed payment directly to a Republican victory in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
“If Republicans win the House of Representatives and the Senate in the 2026 Midterm Elections, I’m going to give all adult citizens in the United States of America, $5,000,” Trump said.
He added: “Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to signing those checks.”
The proposed payment would be available to adult US citizens under the condition outlined by Trump.
However, details on how the proposed payments would be funded, approved and distributed have not been provided.
The 2026 US midterm elections are scheduled for November 3, 2026. The elections will determine all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and a portion of seats in the Senate.
Trump’s latest pledge comes as Republicans and Democrats prepare for the midterm contests that will determine control of Congress for the remainder of his current presidential term.
