Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court Abuja has remanded Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate at Kuje Correctional Centre until Wednesday on 24th of June 2026.

The order issued Monday followed the revocation of Sowore’s bail last week. The court also dismissed his application asking the judge to recuse himself from the trial.
Sowore is facing charges filed by the Department of State Services over public statements in which he described President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal”.
On Monday, Sowore represented himself after his legal team withdrew from the case. He told the court his lawyers could no longer appear before Umar due to persistent hostility and unfair treatment during proceedings.
Sowore had earlier written to the court requesting an adjournment to secure new representation.
In a statement after the hearing, Sowore said he personally moved a fresh motion for the judge to recuse himself. He revealed that an earlier complaint to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court seeking transfer of the case file was rejected.
