The Ondo State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the recovery of a Lexus RX350 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) stolen at gunpoint and the arrest of two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate in Akure.
The command said the operation was carried out by operatives of the Akure Area Command in line with the operational directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and the crime-fighting strategies of the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the robbery occurred at about 8:40 p.m. on July 23, 2026, when armed men allegedly attacked a victim, Mr Yemi Adeyemi, at Advic Resort in Alagbaka, Akure, and forcefully dispossessed him of his Lexus RX350 SUV.
The police said that following a formal complaint lodged by the victim on July 24, detectives immediately launched an intelligence-driven investigation, combining surveillance and strategic field operations to track the suspects.
The investigation led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle, which was found abandoned on the outskirts of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo Campus axis. The SUV was recovered intact and taken into police custody.
The command said further intelligence-led operations resulted in the arrest of two suspects, identified as Adeoba Precious, 31, and Oluwapelumi Babayemi, 30, on July 25.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are allegedly members of a criminal syndicate involved in armed robbery operations within and outside Ondo State.
Police said the suspects confessed to their involvement in the robbery during interrogation.
Searches conducted at their hideouts led to the recovery of a stun gun loaded with one rubber bullet, a jerk knife and the victim’s iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The recovered exhibits have been taken into police custody as investigations continue, while forensic and technical analyses are being carried out.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism and resilience, the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, described the operation as another demonstration of the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention.
He assured residents that the command remains determined to dismantle criminal networks responsible for armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
The commissioner added that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang, recover additional exhibits and ensure that everyone connected with the alleged criminal enterprise is brought to justice.
He also urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, assuring them that all intelligence received would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
Ohagwu reaffirmed the Ondo State Police Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and sustaining peace and security throughout the state.
