IGP Disu Orders Stronger Security Response After Kebbi Attack

IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, Inspector-General of Police, has directed strengthened security measures and intensified operations following the terrorist attack along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State, which claimed the lives of 10 police officers and other civilians.

In line with the directive, the IGP on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, deployed a delegation led by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Umar Shehu Nadada, to Kebbi State to engage with the state government and other relevant stakeholders on the security situation.

The delegation was also mandated to reinforce ongoing efforts to prevent further attacks, protect vulnerable communities and restore lasting peace in the affected areas.

During the engagement, the delegation conveyed the IGP’s deep concern over the loss of the officers and civilians, while reaffirming the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring that the sacrifice of the fallen personnel would not be in vain.

The IGP directed that all available operational and intelligence resources be deployed to identify, track and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

The delegation also reiterated the Force’s commitment to the welfare of the families of the fallen officers, assuring that the bereaved families would continue to receive necessary support in line with existing police welfare policies.

The Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, commended the Nigeria Police Force for the courage and sacrifice of its personnel and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the Police and other security agencies in confronting terrorist and criminal elements operating in the state.

Governor Idris also pledged sustained collaboration with security agencies, particularly in strengthening intelligence sharing, supporting operations and preventing criminal elements from establishing or maintaining safe havens in the state.

The IGP appreciated the Kebbi State Government for its continued partnership and support, while reiterating the resolve of the Nigeria Police Force to intensify intelligence-led and coordinated operations against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.

The Force reaffirmed its constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property and pledged to continue working with the Kebbi State Government, sister security agencies and local communities to improve security in Kebbi State and other parts of the country.

The Nigeria Police Force also honoured the memory of the fallen officers and expressed solidarity with their families, assuring the public that every effort would be made to bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice.
