NECO Rules Out Extension for 2026 SSCE Registration Deadline

By Our Reporter

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has warned that there will be no extension for the registration of candidates for the 2026 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).

In a statement issued by the Registrar and Chief Executive, Dantani Wushishi, the council urged schools, proprietors, principals, and commandants to ensure timely completion of registration within the stipulated deadlines.

According to NECO, the deadline for normal registration is May 25, 2026, while late registration will close on May 29, 2026, with no further extension.

The council stressed that strict adherence to the timeline is essential for the smooth conduct of the examination, which plays a critical role in determining candidates’ eligibility for tertiary education and other opportunities.

NECO warned that failure to meet the registration deadlines may prevent candidates from sitting for the examination, thereby disrupting their academic progression.

The announcement, the council noted, is part of ongoing efforts to streamline examination processes and keep stakeholders adequately informed.
