The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved a timetable for its primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections and reaffirmed preparations for its forthcoming national convention.

This was part of resolutions reached at the party’s 106th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the NEC commended the National Caretaker Working Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed for stabilising the party and guiding its affairs during the current transitional period.
The committee also expressed satisfaction with the conduct of ward and local government congresses across the country and expressed confidence that the state congresses scheduled to hold this weekend would be conducted peacefully and in accordance with the party’s constitution and guidelines.
NEC further approved the conduct of zonal congresses expected to take place within the next two weeks as part of preparations for the party’s national convention.
The party also welcomed recent judgments of the Court of Appeal which affirmed the leadership and authority of the caretaker committee, describing the rulings as strengthening the constitutional processes and stability of the party.
The committee stressed the need for reconciliation and unity among party leaders and stakeholders, urging members involved in internal disputes to resolve their differences through dialogue rather than litigation.
It also called on aggrieved members to refrain from pursuing further court actions, including appeals to the Supreme Court, in the interest of unity and stability within the party.
As part of efforts to modernise its membership system, NEC approved the expansion of the party’s electronic membership registration to enhance transparency, grassroots participation and efficiency in administration.
The meeting also reaffirmed preparations for the PDP national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, during which a new National Working Committee (NWC) will be elected.
NEC further received and reviewed the timetable for the 2027 general elections released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in line with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.
According to the party’s approved timetable, submission of its membership register to INEC will take place on April 10, 2026, while primaries for various elective positions will begin in May.
The schedule includes State Assembly primaries on May 2, National Assembly primaries on May 9, governorship primaries on May 16, and the presidential primary on May 25.
The NEC also condemned the attack by hoodlums on party members during recently conducted congresses in Oyo State, describing the incident as unacceptable and contrary to democratic values.
The party called on security agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice.
NEC urged all party leaders and members across the country to remain united and disciplined while supporting ongoing congresses and preparations for the national convention.
It also reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to democratic principles, national unity, good governance and the welfare of Nigerians, assuring citizens that the party remains a credible platform for national leadership and development.
