The Oyo State Police Command has foiled an attempted armed robbery attack in Iseyin, neutralising one suspect and arresting two others during a gun duel.

The command disclosed that the operation followed credible intelligence received at about 2:00 a.m. regarding an ongoing robbery attack at a residence along Saki Road in Iseyin, Oyo State.
According to the police, detectives were swiftly deployed to the area to prevent the attack and restore normalcy.
Preliminary investigations revealed that about five armed suspects invaded the residence, which had reportedly suffered a similar robbery attack in February.
The police said the resident security guard engaged the suspects in a gun battle before operatives arrived at the scene, leading to the neutralisation of one suspect and the arrest of two others, while the remaining gang members escaped with suspected gunshot injuries.
Items recovered from the scene included a cut-to-size locally made short gun, one expended cartridge, one live cartridge, five mobile phones, two power banks, and an undisclosed sum of money suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
The deceased suspect’s body was deposited at the mortuary, while the arrested suspects, identified as Ali Umar and Mohammed Usman, were taken into police custody for further investigation.
The command said additional victims of previous robbery incidents in the area had since come forward with useful information, adding that one victim positively identified the suspects as members of the gang that attacked his residence on April 13, 2026.
Police said investigations had been intensified to determine the suspects’ involvement in other robbery operations within and outside the area, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend fleeing gang members.
The case file, suspects, and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit for further discreet investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the bravery of the local security team and residents whose timely information aided the success of the operation.
The command reiterated its commitment to intelligence-led policing and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
