Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, of Lagos State has assured residents and visitors to the state of the government’s continued efforts to strengthen security, particularly ahead of increased activities in the state.
Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Tuesday after meeting with security chiefs at the State House, Marina, where he received briefings on ongoing security operations and plans to further strengthen the state’s security architecture.
“We will not relent on our efforts to ensure that criminals don’t find a place for their evil activities in our state,” the governor said.
The meeting focused, among other issues, on security preparations ahead of the end-of-year period, when Lagos is expected to witness an influx of visitors and increased social, religious and cultural activities.
Those at the meeting included the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai; Commander, 9 Brigade, Ikeja, Brig. Gen. A.O. Owolabi; Commander, NNS Beecroft, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu; Commander, 651 Base Services Group (651 BSG), Ikeja, Air Commodore M.A. Imam; and Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LASTF), Dr Ayodele Ogunsan.
Also present were the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Tayo Ayinde; Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Hundeyin; and Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the State, Lawal Pedro.
The security meeting also comes as Lagos prepares to host President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is returning to the state on Tuesday ahead of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The state is also preparing for various Yuletide, religious and cultural activities expected to draw large numbers of residents and visitors.
Political activities are also increasing ahead of the 2027 elections. The Independent National Electoral Commission’s timetable provides for the commencement of public campaigns for governorship and State House of Assembly elections from September 9, 2026, while presidential and National Assembly campaigns commenced on August 19.
The governor’s meeting with the security chiefs is therefore expected to form part of the state’s preparations for managing the increased movement and activities across Lagos in the coming months.
Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to maintaining security and protecting lives and property across the state.
