Sowore, Other Activists Mourn Abiodun Aremu as Family Announces Burial

Omoyele Sowore, Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), and other human rights activists in Nigeria has mourned the death of Abiodun Aremu, dedicated activist and Secretary of the Joint Action Front (JAF).

Abiodun Aremu, who served as Secretary of the Joint Action Front (JAF), was killed on Sunday, October 12, after being struck by a vehicle near his residence in Ota, Ogun State.

An eye witness said he was crossing the road around 6 p.m. when he was hit. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later confirmed dead despite efforts to revive him. He was 65.

Sowore, who reacted to the death of the activist in a post on Sunday, said, “Sad to hear that our revolutionary senior comrade and mentor, Abiodun Aremu, has passed away.
We will deeply miss his courage, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to justice and liberation of the African continent.
May his soul rest in power, and may his legacy continue to inspire the struggle for a freer, fairer, and just world.”

In a statement signed by Owei Lakemfa,
For the Nigeria Labour Movement, the Aremu family agreed with the Labour Movement that the interment of our leader, Comrade Abiodun ‘Aremson’ Aremu be moved by about two weeks. This is to allow for proper mobilization and attendance.

“Consequently, Comrade Aremu will now be interred on Thursday, 23rd October, 2025 at Number 30, Kabiru Fatoye Street, Opposite Alaka Field, Ijako Sugar Bus Stop, Ifo Road, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
Our hearts are with the dear family of our departed Comrade.”
