UNILAG elevates Tayo Popoola to rank of full Professor

The Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has promoted a veteran journalist and former editor of several Nigerian newspapers and magazines, Dr. Tayo Popoola, to the rank of full Professor in the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos.

According to the official newsletter of the University, Campus News, vol. 019, issued on Friday, Popoola was promoted from the rank of Associate Professor to full Professor.

It could be recalled that Popoola in his hey days in journalism was at different times a staff writer, Political Correspondent, Political Editor, Assistant News Editor,News Editor, Deputy Editor and Editor.

He left the defunct Diet weekend newspaper as an editor in 2001 and joined the services of Unilag in 2002 as an Assistant Lecturer. He rose across the ranks to Lecturer grade 2, Lecturer grade 1, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and now a professor.

Dr Popoola has published widely in local and foreign journals, including several chapter contributions in local and foreign textbooks across the world. He is the author of the following authoritative textbooks: Introduction to Government (2001), GSM as a tool for news reporting in Nigeria (2003), Public Relations, Advertising and Promotions ( 2005) and many others.
