Updated: Scores of Worshippers killed in fresh attack in Owo Catholic Church

Many worshippers were killed in an attack which rocked St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

It was learnt that gun men carried out the attack, saying they opened fire on worshippers.

The worship center is adjacent the palace of Olowo of Owo. Owo is the hometown of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Sparklight News gathered that some gunmen invaded the church during service and opened fire on the members of the church, killing some of them.

A source who explained that the worshippers were caught unaware, adding the casualty might be more as some worshippers had been rushed to the hospital.

He added that the gunmen also used some explosives within the compound of the church but said most of the people were hit with gunshots.

The perpetrators were said to have fled the scene immediately after carrying  out the killing, leaving many people dead.

Some of the corpses had since been moved from the church to Federal Medical Centre, Owo, for medical attention where many casualties were lying down without adequate medical attention as many medical officials were not on ground.
