EFCC Arraigns Land Racketeer in Maiduguri

The Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 arraigned one Ibrahim Ahmed before Justice Umaru Fadawu of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri on a one count further amended charge for the offence of cheating to the tune of N850,000.00 (Eight Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira).

He allegedly used fake documents to obtain the sum from Mohammed Ali Tijjani over a plot of with number 78 OTP/159EXT. 01 in Maiduguri.

The count read: “That you, Ibrahim Ahmed sometime in June, 2019 in Maiduguri within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court dishonestly induced Mohammed Ali Tijjani to deliver to you the sum of N850, 000.00 (Eight Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) under the guise that the said amount represent payment for a plot of land number 78 OTP/159EXT. 01 laying and situates at Kusari of Jere Local Government Area and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 320 (a) and punishable under section 322 of the Penal Code Cap 102 Laws of Borno State.”

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Upon his plea, counsel to the EFCC, Mukhtar Ali Ahmed, prayed the court to fix a date for hearing and to remand the defendant in the Correctional Center pending trial.

Justice Fadawu thereafter adjourned the matter till November 10, 2022 and remanded the defendant in prison custody.
