Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State is reportedly holding a meeting with the members of the state executive council.
It was learnt that the meeting is holding at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The emergency meeting followed the defection of 27 members of the State Assembly from ruling Peoples Democratic Party to the opposition All Progressives Congress.
It is understood that the assembly comprised 32 members from different state constituencies.
The affected lawmakers are said to be loyalists to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of the state.
The lawmakers, who sat under tight security mounted at the entrance of the Assembly complex along Moscow Road in Port Harcourt, held plenary around 8 am on Monday where the decision was taken.
It was learnt that the emergency council meeting is not unconnected with the political crisis in the state.
