Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector-General of Police, has restated the Force’s commitment to addressing the welfare concerns of retired officers under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

Speaking after a meeting the Retired Police officers who protested the non payment of their pension arrears early in the day, at Force Headquarters, Egbetokun expressed empathy, noting that serving officers also worry about retirement.
He revealed ongoing high-level engagements, including a recent meeting with the National Security Adviser, focused on improving retirees’ conditions.
While supporting calls to exit the CPS, IGP noted the process is beyond his power and has remained unresolved for over a decade.
He emphasized that reforms within the CPS are still possible to improve outcomes.
Egbetokun therefore warned retirees against being manipulated by external actors with hidden agendas, urging them to stay focused on genuine dialogue and solutions.
