UNILAG appoints new Dean of Student Affairs

Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has approved the appointment of an acting Dean of Student Affairs for the Institution.

The new acting Dean of Students Affairs is Dr. Obalola of the Faculty of Business administration who is expected to resume in November.

Dr Obalola will take over from Professor Ademola Adeleke who has been in office since the tenure of Professor Rahman Bello which was later renewed by Professor Ogundipe.

At the expiry of the tenure of Professor Adeleke, he was given an extension which also expired and the managment has kept mum on the issue.

Dr. Obalola is an Associate Professor in the Department of Actuarial Science and Insurance, Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Lagos. He is an enthusiastic and self-motivated lecturer/researcher/trainer with about twenty years of experience in research, teaching and lecturing in the areas of Insurance, Risk Management, Governance, Ethics & Social Responsibility, Management, and Economic Issues.Dr. Obalola also reviews for a number of academic journals in these subject areas. He is a graduate of Leicester Castle Business School, De Montfort University, United Kingdom where he obtained M.Sc. Risk Management (Distinction) and PhD Insurance Ethics in 2010 and 2018 respectively. He is also an alumnus of the University of Lagos, where he bagged M.Sc. Business Administration (Management Specialisation) (1998) and B.Sc. (Hons.) Insurance (1994). Dr. Obalola is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loan and Risk Management (FCILRM), Institute of Islamic Finance Professional (IIFP) and a member of various other academic and professionalbodies, some of which include, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN); Chartered Insurance Institute of London (CII London); British Academy of Management (BAM); Social Responsibility Research Networks (SRRNet.) and Academy of Management, Nigeria (AMN).

In addition to his schedule as a lecturer at the University of Lagos where he has served in various administrative capacities (e.g., Deputy Director, Academic Planning Unit, Sub-Dean, Faculty of Business Administration) he has also served as an Associate lecturer in the Department of Strategy and Management, Leicester Castle Business School, De Montfort University, Leicester, UK, between 2006 and 2010; Department of Insurance, University of Uyo between 2012 – 2017and Department of Business Administration, School of Management,Lagos State Polytechnic, Isolo Campusbetween 1999 and 2001. He has severed in several committees, such as Central Research Committee (CRC); Budget Monitoring Committee (BMC); Central Admission Committee CAC), Council Committee on Accreditation (CCA); Academic Programme Committee of Senate (APC). Dr. Obalola is a recipient of the Leicester Castle Business School Best Student Performance on M.Sc. Risk Management, 2019; Outstanding Author Contribution and Highly Commended Paper Awards at the Emerald Literati Award of Excellence in 2015 and 2013 respectively.
