Police Detain Driver Over Fatal Crash That Killed LASU Student

The Nigeria Police Force in Lagos State has detained a driver over a fatal motor accident that claimed the life of a student of Lagos State University in the Igando area.

The command disclosed this in a statement shared on its official X handle on Saturday night, April 11, 2026, confirming that an investigation has commenced.

“The Command is aware of the incident, which is a fatal motor accident. Following the report, the DPO Igando promptly visited the scene,” the statement read.

It added that the victim’s body has been deposited at a mortuary, while the driver is in police custody and the vehicle involved impounded for further investigation.

“The case has since been transferred to the Area Command,” the police said, assuring that all necessary legal actions would be taken.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, when the female student, identified simply as Azeezat, was crushed by a vehicle in Igando.

The development sparked outrage among students, with some storming the Area M Police Division over allegations that officers were attempting to shield the driver and cover up the incident.

The students have continued to demand justice for the deceased, while the police urged the public to remain calm as investigations proceed.
