Wale Edun, Former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and the former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, have resigned from their positions in the Federal Executive Council, contrary to reports suggesting they were removed.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga on April 22, 2026.
According to the Presidency, Edun tendered his resignation on health grounds before Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced his replacement on Tuesday.
Edun, who turned 70 on Monday, reportedly submitted his resignation letter on his birthday, expressing appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve.
“It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he wrote, adding that under Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria has grown stronger, more resilient, and more respected internationally.
Prior to the official announcement of his exit by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Edun paid a valedictory visit to the President at the Presidential Villa, where he held a closed-door meeting before stepping aside to focus on private engagements.
Similarly, Dangiwa also resigned his position, thanking the President for the opportunity to serve in government. Before his ministerial appointment in 2023, he served as Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank and as Secretary to the Katsina State Government.
Edun, an economist and investment banker, previously served as Commissioner for Finance in Lagos State between 1999 and 2004 during Tinubu’s tenure as governor. He also had a career spanning roles at Chase Merchant Bank, the World Bank, and as co-founder of Stanbic IBTC, among other professional engagements.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to both former ministers for their contributions to his administration’s economic reform agenda, wishing them success in their future endeavours.
The President has also tasked the new Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, with consolidating ongoing reforms and advancing fiscal and economic policies with renewed focus and innovation.
Meanwhile, the President is expected to forward the nomination of Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the new Minister of Housing to the Senate for confirmation.
