The Royal Government of Cambodia has issued an official notice directing African nationals currently residing in the country to leave on or before May 31, 2026, following the expiration of an immigration waiver programme.

The notice, issued by the General Department of Immigration under Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior, specifically mentioned nationals from Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda, and other African countries.
According to the notice, all foreign nationals whose immigration fines had previously been cleared under the waiver arrangement are expected to exit Cambodia before the stated deadline.
The Cambodian authorities warned that any affected foreign national found in the country from June 1, 2026, would face arrest and prosecution for immigration violations.
The notice further stated that offenders risk a two-year jail term and a penalty of $8,000 before being allowed to leave the country.
“The Cambodia Police will start arresting any foreigner at any hideout in Cambodia from 1st of June 2026 for overstay and will hand over to the immigration authorities for legal action,” the statement read.
The government stressed that it would not tolerate violations of Cambodia’s immigration laws and urged all affected persons to comply strictly with the directive.
The notice was signed by Lt. Gen. Som Sopheak, Director General of the General Department of Immigration, and approved by Gen. Sar Sokha, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Interior.
Authorities also provided contact details for information and assistance through the General Department of Immigration in Phnom Penh.
