The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has dismissed as false a widely circulated claim that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, participated in a protest against the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

According to a statement circulated by the church, a photograph showing Pastor Adeboye holding a placard during a public walk has been repeatedly misrepresented on social media as evidence that he led or joined a protest against Jonathan’s government.
The church clarified that the photograph was taken during a peaceful nationwide walk organized by churches under the umbrella of the Christian Association of Nigeria during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The statement explained that the exercise was carried out in response to a directive from CAN, calling attention to the persistent killings of Christians and urging government authorities to take stronger measures to protect lives and property.
According to RCCG, the walk in Ebute Metta, Lagos, where Pastor Adeboye participated, formed part of the nationwide exercise and was neither directed at Jonathan’s administration nor connected to it in any way.
The church noted that despite extensive media coverage of the event at the time, some of the photographs have resurfaced years later and are being falsely portrayed as evidence of a protest against a different government.
RCCG further stated that Pastor Adeboye’s message during the walk emphasized the sanctity of human life and the need to protect all Nigerians, irrespective of religious affiliation.
The church stressed that while citizens have the right to demand solutions to the country’s challenges, expectations that Pastor Adeboye should dictate how elected officials govern the country are misplaced.
“Pastor Adeboye is a clergyman, not the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,” the statement said.
The church, however, maintained that the cleric has not remained silent on national issues. It recalled that during the November 2025 Holy Ghost Service, Pastor Adeboye publicly advised the Federal Government to take urgent action against insecurity and the activities of terrorists across the country.
According to RCCG, he warned that failure to decisively tackle the security situation could create circumstances that might attract foreign intervention under the guise of combating terrorism.
The cleric also reportedly urged authorities to hold security chiefs accountable and ensure that both terrorists and their sponsors are brought to justice.
RCCG reiterated that neither Pastor Adeboye nor the church is responsible for Nigeria’s current challenges, stressing that the church is not a political party and does not serve as the religious arm of any political organization.
The church urged members of the public to verify information through official RCCG communication channels before sharing claims concerning Pastor Adeboye or the church.
It concluded by emphasizing the importance of facts, context, and truth in public discourse.
