The House of Representatives has passed the Constitution Alteration Bill for the establishment of State Police Services in Nigeria.
This followed consideration and voting on the provisions of the Executive Bill at the Committee of the Whole chaired by Abbas Tajudeen, Speaker of the House.
Amidst a rowdy session, the Speaker announced that 311 members voted in favour of the bill.
Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House, led the debate for the consideration and passage of the bill, stressing that it is intended to deepen Nigeria’s federal system by decentralising policing, improving public safety, and giving states a greater role in protecting lives and property.
