The Ondo State Police Command has announced a restriction of vehicular movement within the Ondo South Senatorial District ahead of the by-election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, assuring residents of adequate security throughout the electoral process.

According to a statement issued by the Command, movement of vehicles will be restricted from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. across the senatorial district as part of measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful, orderly, and credible election.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, said extensive security arrangements have been put in place, with personnel strategically deployed to polling units, collation centres, electoral offices, and other critical locations within the district.

The Command stated that the restriction will also apply to transportation on waterways within the affected areas. However, accredited officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), election observers, accredited journalists, emergency service providers, and other persons legally authorised to perform election-related duties will be exempted from the restriction.

Police authorities warned that any unauthorised movement of vehicles or boats, as well as activities capable of disrupting the electoral process, would not be tolerated. Security operatives have been directed to enforce the restriction professionally while ensuring respect for the rights of law-abiding citizens.

The Commissioner of Police also cautioned political actors, their supporters, and members of the public against engaging in violence, voter intimidation, vote-buying, thuggery, or any other act capable of undermining the credibility of the election. He stressed that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

CP Ohagwu noted that the Command has intensified intelligence gathering, visibility policing, strategic patrols, and joint operations with other security agencies to guarantee a secure environment before, during, and after the election.

He expressed appreciation to the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his continued support in strengthening the state’s security architecture. The police chief also commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for providing strategic leadership and guidance toward ensuring effective security for electoral processes nationwide.

The Ondo State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that the Ondo South Senatorial District By-Election is conducted in an atmosphere of peace, safety, and public confidence.

Residents were urged to cooperate with security agencies and comply with all directives aimed at ensuring a successful electoral exercise.
