Two Grandpas, 75-Year-Old Grandma Arrested As NDLEA Busts Teen Drug Supply Ring

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two elderly men, aged 84 and 75, for allegedly selling illicit drugs to teenage secondary school students in Umuahia, Abia State.

NDLEA operatives arrested 75-year-old Godwin Obulunbiya Obiora on Friday 19th June 2026 after intelligence linked him to selling drugs from his patent medicine store at 4 Club Road, Umuahia. A search recovered 4.64kg of opioids including tramadol and diazepam.

Separately, 84-year-old Godfrey Orji, a pensioner, was caught by guards at Saint Silas Secondary School, Old Umuahia, for supplying drugs to two teenage students. The guards handed them to police, who transferred the case to NDLEA on Thursday 18th June.

One of the students, a 15-year-old SS2 boy, told investigators that Pa Orji supplied him drugs which he used and sold to fellow students. Both grandpas face prosecution, while the students have been placed on counselling and rehabilitation.

NDLEA intercepted 9.5kg of ADB Chminaca, a synthetic cannabinoid from China, at a Lagos courier firm. Another 300grams of Loud cannabis was found hidden in ladies’ handbags at a different logistics company on 16th June.

In Ajah, nine bottles of codeine syrup and 30grams of skunk were recovered from the home of wanted dealer Lukman Badmus. His wife, Aisha Saraki, was caught trying to flush exhibits during a follow-up raid at her Lagos Island shop. Operatives also recovered 42 blocks of skunk weighing 22.5kg from a bus parked outside.

In Kogi, Tochukwu Onah, 33, was caught on Okene/Lokoja highway with 1.030kg methamphetamine hidden in custard containers. A wanted couple, James Tony Chukwudi, 48, and James Kehinde, 35, were arrested in Ekiti on 16th June over 117kg of skunk seized in March.

NDLEA raided a house in Dangote area, Oyo town, on 20th June and arrested 75-year-old Tudun Olubiyi with two others. Officers recovered 118 jumbo bags containing 1,416kg of skunk covered with sawdust.

In Edo, 1,744.075kg of skunk was destroyed at Khagba forest, with 169kg processed cannabis recovered and one suspect arrested. Another 2,424.945kg was destroyed at Ebora Camp, Ilushi, where Augustine Anyamone, 45, was caught with 395kg skunk.

Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), NDLEA Chairman, commended officers in Abia, Ekiti, Oyo, Lagos, Kogi, and Edo for the arrests and seizures. He said the Agency’s drug supply reduction drive is balanced with WADA sensitization in schools and communities.
