Letter of Undertaking,criteria for all Students in Ogun State to return to School- Commisioner

The Ogun State Government has mandated parents and guardians to sign letters of undertaking before resuming for the second term academic session to ensure discipline in Schools.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu disclosed this in Abeokuta during a press conference, saying acts of indiscipline needs to be tackled headlong by all concerned persons to restore sanity in schools.

Arigbabu stated that an undertaking form has been made available in all schools and on the Ministry’s website ogsera.ogunstate.gov.ng before any student would be allowed to resume for the new term, explaining that the form contains columns for parents, guardians and students.

“The undertaking form is expected to be signed by a parent and registered guardian of the student, we will not allow just anybody to come to the school and pose as a parent of any learner, the undertaking form is to make sure that students stay in line with the laid down rules of government, hence, any student found wanting will be punished accordingly.

“Challenges in education is multi-dimensional which we have to address appropriately. We have mandate to return sanity into schools. How to better the lots of education should be of priority to every principal in Ogun State”, Arigbabu said.

Responding to questions from newsmen, the Commissioner pointed out that the government had rolled out plans to tackle indiscipline in schools which include, resuscitation of extra-curricular activities to engage the learners, curriculum evaluation and reward system to encourage excellent students, among others.

The Commissioner who advised parents and guardians to abide by the Ministry’s directive in all ramifications, noted that expelling a student would be the last measure resorted to for any misconduct, saying “any student expelled will not be accepted in any other schools, including private schools across the State and any school that admit such students will be prosecuted”.
