Police have sacked 5 officers from service, while one other was demoted from the rank of Inspector to Sergeant for offences ranging from extortion to alleged criminal conduct in Edo State.
The Police sacked the officers after series of complaints that the dismissed officers, under the guise of Police operations, compelled unsuspecting citizens to withdraw money through Point-of-Sale, PSO, operators before regaining their freedom.
Parading the five dismissed Policemen at the State Police Command Headquarters, Asaba, ASP Eno Ikoedem, Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, said the action was taken after thorough investigation.
The PPRO said the Command will no longer tolerate any abuse of office by officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.
The police promised to bring other erring officers, who are at large and have been declared wanted, to face the full wrath of the law.
