The federal government has expressed concern over the current political and security situation in the Republic of Niger.
In a statement by Oluwafemi Adeniyi, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Nigeria, as a close neighbour with historical and cultural ties to Niger, is keenly desirous of peace, security, democracy and development in the country.
The government noted that a peaceful and stable Niger will positively impact Nigeria, the sub-region, and the entire Sahel.
It warned that any resort to the use of force to settle political differences detracts from that objective.
The government therefore urged the authorities and people of Niger to work towards an inclusive return to stability and constitutional order in the interest of regional peace.
