The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered a stolen Hyundai vehicle in Abuja and handed it over to the police for further investigation.
The red Hyundai, with registration number YAB 789 AM, was recovered at about 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, by a tow truck team of the RS7.1 FCT Sector Command at Wuye, along the expressway leading to Area 1.
The FRSC said the recovery followed the team’s operational activities in the area, adding that a document found inside the vehicle provided a lead that enabled the owner to be traced and contacted.
Following the recovery, the Sector Commander, RS7.1 FCT Sector Command, Corps Commander Tijjani Iliyasu, activated the inter-agency process by inviting the FCT Police Command for the formal handover of the vehicle.
The vehicle was subsequently handed over by DCC Sabitu Abdu, Deputy Corps Commander (Operations), to CSP Nimyel Ponfa, Divisional Police Officer, Wuse Division, who received it on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command.
Commenting on the development, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said the recovery underscored the importance of technology, vigilance and inter-agency collaboration in protecting lives and property on Nigerian roads.
He said the Corps would continue to strengthen its vehicle identification and intelligence capabilities while maintaining collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.
According to him, the development was consistent with efforts to reposition the FRSC as a technologically driven, responsive and security-conscious institution.
The Corps Marshal also highlighted the role of the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) in vehicle verification and national security operations, disclosing that 81 stolen vehicles have so far been recovered through the NVIS Portal.
He stressed that the FRSC’s mandate to save lives on Nigerian roads was inseparable from the broader responsibility of ensuring that the road environment remained safe, secure and properly regulated.
Mohammed commended the RS7.1 FCT Sector Command tow truck team for its vigilance and professionalism and appreciated the FCT Police Command for its continued cooperation.
He assured Nigerians that the Corps would continue to leverage technology, intelligence, field operations and strategic partnerships to identify suspicious vehicles, support investigations and prevent the criminal exploitation of the nation’s road transportation system.
