Sokoto State Government Constitutes Advisory Committee On Recent Unrest In The State

The Sokoto State Government has constituted a Fourteen member Advisory Committee to examine controversies surrounding some utterances by Islamic Scholar in the State that reportedly led to breach of peace.

A statement by the Director-General Media and Publicity Government House Sokoto Abubakar Bawa, indicates that the Committee is to be chaired by Malam Yahaya na Malam Boyi, the Sarkin Malamai, while Umar Muhammad Gandi, will serve as Secretary.

The Committee is mandated to critically examine the position of Shari’ah on the issues raised by Malam Musa Lukuwa and advise the Government accordingly.

It is also expected to submit its report to the Government within Fourteen days.

The move is aimed at addressing the issues surrounding the controversial utterances and supporting efforts to maintain peace and religious harmony in Sokoto State.

The State Government had earlier in an a separate Release dissociated itself from any Person or group using Religion as a pretext to disrespect Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, his Parents, household and Companions.
