Kebbi Attacks: Idris Moves To Establish Military Base in Bagudo

By Jelili Gbadamosi

Nasir Idris, Kebbi State Governor, has announced plans to seek the establishment of a military base in Bagudo Local Government Area following a series of deadly attacks by bandits.

The governor disclosed this on Saturday while visiting the District Head of Kaoje, Mustapha Usman, to condole with him over the killing of the village head of Lafagu and other residents.

Idris said the proposed military presence was part of efforts to strengthen security and prevent further attacks in communities affected by banditry.

He said his administration was working with security agencies to track down those responsible for the attacks and restore normalcy to the affected areas.

The governor also assured residents displaced by the violence that the government was taking steps to facilitate their safe return to their communities.

“I am not going to relent in ensuring that my people are protected,” Idris said, adding that his administration was working with security agencies to ensure internally displaced persons could return safely to their villages.

During the visit, the governor also inspected camps housing residents displaced by the attacks and reiterated the government’s commitment to their protection and eventual return home.

Idris urged residents to support security agencies by providing credible information about suspicious individuals and activities in their communities.

He, however, warned residents against taking the law into their own hands, stressing the need for cooperation with security personnel in efforts to tackle the security situation.
