APC Challenges Obi to Honour Pledge, Quit 2027 Presidential Race

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race, insisting that he should honour a previous commitment concerning alleged financial liabilities incurred during his tenure as Anambra State governor.

The APC Presidential Campaign Council made the demand in a statement issued by its spokesman, Dele Alake, on Friday night.

Alake alleged that official financial records had established liabilities linked to Obi’s administration in Anambra and argued that the former governor should fulfil his earlier pledge to step aside from the presidential contest if such liabilities were proven.

The council also criticised Obi over his recent interview with the BBC, in which he maintained that he won the 2023 presidential election but admitted that he had no evidence to substantiate the claim.

According to Alake, Obi should provide verifiable evidence to support his assertion, noting that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s declared results placed him third in the election.

The APC campaign council further argued that the outcome of the 2023 election had already been settled through the courts, pointing out that the victories of President Bola Tinubu were upheld by both the Presidential Election Petition Court and the Supreme Court.

It accused Obi of continuing to challenge the outcome despite the judicial decisions.

The council said Tinubu’s administration was instead focused on implementing its economic, education and infrastructure programmes rather than revisiting the disputes surrounding the 2023 presidential election.
