FCT Police Warn Motorists Against Vehicles Without Valid Number Plates

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has warned motorists and vehicle owners against driving vehicles without valid licence plates or with concealed, defaced or deliberately faded number plates.

The warning was issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, who also ordered the arrest and immediate prosecution of offenders found violating the law.

The Command said it was particularly concerned about the increasing use of vehicles, including SUVs, with concealed or invalid number plates, noting that such vehicles could be used by criminal elements to evade detection and identification. The police also warned against the use of fake diplomatic number plates or diplomatic plates by unauthorised persons within the FCT.

According to the Command, the situation poses significant security concerns in the nation’s capital because vehicles without properly displayed identification numbers can make it difficult for law enforcement agencies to track them when they are linked to criminal activities.

Sanusi directed police officers across the FCT to intensify enforcement of existing laws governing vehicle identification and the use of tinted glasses. He, however, instructed officers to conduct the operations professionally and warned them against using the enforcement exercise as an avenue for extortion.

The Command urged residents to support police operations and report suspicious vehicles or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility.
