The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has appointed 56-year-old Suleiman Kum as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office (HNO).

Kum, who was previously Deputy Registrar in the HNO’s office and Senior Deputy Registrar in charge of Test Administration, succeeds Dr Amos Dangut, whose three-year tenure ended on October 1, 2026. Dangut has since assumed office as Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of WAEC.
In a statement, WAEC Nigeria’s Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, described Kum as a seasoned test developer, administrator and executive who joined the Council in 1998 as an Assistant Registrar II.
According to the statement, Kum has played key roles in technological and administrative innovations within WAEC, including pioneering variable data printing and enhanced security features in examination printing. He also contributed to the replacement of attendance systems with facial-recognition biometric devices and the introduction of Computer-Based Examination for Achievement Tests.
The new HNO has held several senior positions across WAEC, including Head of Examinations Security in Awka, Yola and Makurdi; Branch Controller in Gusau and Kano; Deputy Registrar and Head of the Security Printing Department; Zonal Coordinator in Port Harcourt and Ikeja; Director of Administration; and Senior Deputy Registrar in charge of Test Administration.
Kum, who hails from Plateau State, holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria and is currently pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning at the institution. WAEC said his career has been marked by integrity, diligence, innovation and commitment to service, earning him several institutional commendations and awards.
