Joint Enforcement Team Continues Removal of Illegal Squatters, Towing of Vehicles Along Badagry Expressway

By Ikugbadi Oluwasegun

A combined team comprising LAWMA, KAI, LASTMA, Taskforce, Mopol, and Military Personnel is sustaining the ongoing enforcement operation along the Badagry Expressway to clear illegal squatters, shanties, and makeshift structures from the median along the Volks to Iyana Iba axis, while also towing illegally parked vehicles causing road obstruction.

The operation, which commenced following the Governor’s directive issued on Saturday, 27th June 2026, is part of the State Government’s zero-tolerance stance on encroachments on road medians, illegal parking, and indiscriminate activities along the Badagry Expressway. The directive emphasized the need to restore order, improve traffic flow, and eliminate safety hazards along one of Lagos’s busiest corridors.

During the exercise, the enforcement team came under attack by some miscreants resisting the operation. However, with the swift intervention of Mopol and Military Personnel, the situation was brought under control, and no casualty was recorded. The team survived the attack, and the operation continued, with teams remaining on the ground to ensure full clearance and sustainability of the exercise.

In a related operation, LASTMA towing vans moved in to remove vehicles found parked indiscriminately on the median, causing obstruction to traffic. Several vehicles were towed as part of the broader effort to restore the right-of-way and ensure free flow of traffic along the corridor.

The joint operation, which involved LAWMA, the Lagos State Environmental Task Force, Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), LASTMA, Mopol, and Military Personnel, reflects the State Government’s holistic approach to environmental restoration and public safety. The collaboration ensures that all aspects of the enforcement are covered, from clearing illegal structures to removing obstructive vehicles and restoring environmental order.

The government has reiterated its commitment to sustaining the operation until the entire corridor is fully reclaimed and restored. Residents and stakeholders have been urged to cooperate with enforcement agencies and to desist from any activities that compromise the integrity of public infrastructure. The enforcement teams remain on the ground to ensure that the gains of the operation are sustained.
